From NYC, we flew to St. Kitts via Miami. I hate sitting in the airport during layovers, so we looked into taking public transit into the city. It was pretty easy and quick to do. Brent found a cute little cafe for our lunch in downtownish Miami. We had a delicious pressed cuban sandwich.
We tried to get to a gelato place but we didn’t have enough time, so we grabbed an entire pint from a super market.
We flew to St. Kitts and arrived late Tuesday night. Did you know that St. Kitts is the first island Christopher Columbus saw in the West Indies?
I don’t remember much about our vacation. I should probably journal right after a trip so I actually remember what we did. We stayed at a Marriott Resort on the beach which I really enjoyed. I highly recommend lounging beach vacations.
Day One:
Our Resort View
The awesome ship in the middle of the hotel.
We alternated between the beach and the pool.
That night we ate an appetizer of french fries and a pina colada at a local hangout called Patsy’s. Then we ate an amazing dinner at an Indian restaurant.
Day Two:
Rainforest Safari and Beach Day
We took a tour through a company to hike the rainforest and eat coconut pastries.
This is the remnants from a windmill that used to grind sugar cane.
Bananas
Coconuts
Pinapples
A tree called match me if you can (I think that’s what it’s called)
We hiked with another family who came from Pennsylvania. The parents were originally from South Africa, so it was really neat to hear their life story.
I felt like Mowgli was going to pop out of the bushes any second.
Then it was back to the beach. Mock if you must. I love me some water shoes.
We also took a walk at sunset on the golf course.
This night we went to eat at a restaurant we found on Yelp. Try as we might we couldn’t find it on the beachfront. The waitstaff at some of the other restaurants were kind of snarky, so we ended up getting pizza from the Marriott Pizza Shack and eating it under the moonlight skies by the pool.
Day Three:
Ferry to Nevis, the sister island.
All beaches on St Kitts and Nevis are public, just not the chairs. We took the opportunity to swim at Pinney’s Beach along with the 4 Seasons crowd. It was a great swimming beach!
I thought the dormant volcanos were pretty cool.
After swimming, we wanted to go to a place called Bananas for lunch. We started walking from the beach hoping we could find a taxi driver. We didn’t see one, so we figured we would walk along side the road until one came because on these islands I think there are more taxi drivers than grains of sand. In less than 5 minutes, a nice lady pulled over and asked us if we needed a taxi. She took us the the restaurant which was located high on the volcano. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful and the views were spectacular.
Our nice taxi lady came back for us at a predesignated time and took us back to the ferry landing. We had some time to kill before the ferry took off, so we wandered into the tour building. They gave us directions to the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton.
We ended our trip back at a restaurant we visited the first night among the locals drinking a pina colada.
